Building a relationship with God does not require special skills or a perfect life. It begins with faith, honesty, and a willing heart. God wants people to know Him and live according to His teachings. Through Jesus Christ, anyone can begin this journey and develop a closer connection with God.
Here are three simple steps to help you start a relationship with God.
Believe in Jesus Christ and Accept Him as Lord
The first step is to believe in Jesus Christ and accept Him as the Lord of your life. According to the Bible, Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day.
Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
This means you must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and trust what He has done for you. You do not need to have all the answers before coming to Him. Start with an honest heart and accept Him as your Lord and Savior.
You can begin with a simple prayer. Tell Jesus that you believe in Him, accept His leadership, and want Him to become part of your life.

Repent and Turn Away from Your Old Ways
The second step is to repent of your sins and make a real effort to change your life. Repentance means understanding your mistakes, asking God for forgiveness, and choosing to leave behind actions that go against His teachings.
Acts 3:19 says, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out.”
Everyone makes mistakes, but God offers forgiveness to those who truly turn to Him. You should not allow your past to stop you from building a relationship with God.
Start by looking at your daily actions. Avoid lying, hurting others, cheating, and holding anger in your heart. Learn to forgive people, speak honestly, and treat others with kindness.
Changing old habits may take time, but you can ask God for strength and guidance. The goal is not to become perfect overnight but to grow in faith and follow His ways every day.
Read the Bible and Follow God’s Teachings
The third step is to build a daily connection with God through His Word and prayer. The Bible teaches us about God’s love, His promises, and the way He wants us to live.
Start by reading a small part of the Bible every day. You can begin with the Gospel of John to learn more about Jesus and His teachings. Think about what you read and try to apply those lessons to your daily life.
Prayer is also an important part of this relationship. You do not need special words or a long speech. Talk to God honestly about your problems, worries, hopes, and mistakes. Thank Him for the good things in your life and ask Him to guide your decisions.

As you continue reading the Bible, praying, and following His teachings, your faith can become stronger. The Holy Spirit also helps believers understand God’s Word and grow in their spiritual lives.
