The Lies Addiction Tells

Addiction is powerful because it manipulates the mind. It convinces people to believe things that are simply not true.

One of the most common lies is, “I can stop anytime I want.” If quitting were that easy, addiction would not affect millions of people around the world.

True control means being able to stop and stay stopped. When someone repeatedly returns to a substance despite wanting to quit, it’s a warning sign that control has already been lost.

Another common lie is comparison. People often say, “I’m not as bad as someone else.”

But addiction is not a competition. Just because someone else is suffering more does not mean your problem is small.

Waiting for “rock bottom” is another dangerous belief. Many people think they must lose everything before they deserve help. In reality, some people never survive long enough to reach that point.

Addiction thrives on delay. It tells people to deal with the problem later.

But later often becomes never.

Recognizing these lies is powerful. When people begin to see the truth behind them, they start taking back
